Puppy starter checklist for the UAE
Everything you need before your puppy comes home — from crate and food to Dubai Municipality registration and summer walking rules.
Before pickup day
Have the basics ready: a correctly sized crate (big enough to stand and turn, small enough to feel snug), food and water bowls, puppy-formula food matching what the breeder or shelter used, a comfortable bed, and training pads.
Add a collar with an ID tag, a lightweight leash, and a couple of chew-safe toys — teething starts fast.
First-week essentials
Book a vet visit within the first week for a health check and vaccination plan. In Dubai, register your dog with Dubai Municipality and keep the tag on their collar. Pet insurance is worth pricing early — premiums rise once conditions are diagnosed.
UAE-specific tips
From May to September, walk before 7am or after 7pm — pavements can burn paws at midday. Air-conditioned indoor play and puzzle feeders cover exercise on the hottest days. Keep fresh water available in every room your puppy uses.
