Start with life stage and breed size

Puppies, adults and seniors have very different nutritional needs. Puppy formulas carry more protein, fat and minerals for growth; senior recipes adjust calories and add joint support. Breed size matters just as much — large-breed puppies need controlled calcium for healthy joints, while small breeds do better with smaller kibble and more energy-dense recipes.

Reading the label like a pro

Look for a named protein source (chicken, lamb, salmon) as the first ingredient rather than a generic 'meat meal'. In the UAE's heat, hydration matters more — mixing in wet food or adding water to kibble helps dogs that don't drink enough.

Grain-free isn't automatically better; it's mainly for dogs with diagnosed sensitivities. If your dog shows itching, loose stool or ear infections, talk to your vet before switching.
